Online gambling is prohibited in Indonesia, including internet sports betting and casino games. Authorities actively block domains and content, restrict payment flows and investigate accounts connected to gambling networks. An offshore licence, rupiah pricing or a working mirror link does not create Indonesian authorisation. This guide explains the current enforcement environment, common payment and impersonation risks, safer account checks and official reporting options.

Online betting is prohibited in Indonesia
Indonesia does not operate a licensed domestic market for online sportsbooks or internet casinos. Gambling content and services are prohibited under national criminal and electronic-information rules. Komdigi actively orders content removals and access blocking, while financial authorities and banks work to identify and interrupt accounts and payment flows linked to online gambling.
The prohibition is not changed by an operator being based abroad. A foreign licence, Indonesian-language page, rupiah balance or locally familiar logo does not authorise a service in Indonesia. A domain that opens today may be blocked later, and mirror links circulated through messages or social media can expose users to phishing and malicious downloads.
Access is not evidence of safety
Illegal operators often switch domains, distribute Android packages outside official stores and use agents to move money. These practices reduce transparency and make disputes difficult. Users may have no effective route when an account is frozen, a bonus is reinterpreted or a withdrawal is refused.
- Do not use a VPN or mirror domain to bypass an official block.
- Do not install APK files from chats, adverts or shortened links.
- Reject “guaranteed win,” fixed-match and paid loss-recovery claims.
- Never allow an agent to control your phone, wallet or bank account.
Payments and financial scams
Indonesia’s everyday payment system includes bank transfers, virtual accounts, cards, e-wallets and QRIS. Their appearance at checkout does not validate a gambling site. Criminal networks may use changing personal accounts, merchant codes or intermediaries to obscure the destination of funds. A request to split a deposit, transfer to an unrelated name or pay an extra charge to release winnings is a serious warning sign.
Check the recipient before confirming a transfer, keep one-time passwords and PINs private, and never install remote-access software at a caller’s request. If fraud is suspected, contact the bank or wallet provider immediately so it can attempt to secure the account and trace the transaction. Preserve receipts, account names, phone numbers, URLs and chat history for a report to the relevant authorities.
How to assess app and support claims
Check who owns the service, where it is legally registered and whether the named regulator’s own register contains the exact domain. Even a genuine foreign licence does not make the service legal in Indonesia. Look for copied logos, recently changed domains, support limited to messaging apps and inconsistent company names. Never send identity documents until the legal recipient, purpose and privacy terms are clear.
Reducing gambling harm
No betting system can guarantee profit. Chasing losses, borrowing, selling possessions, hiding activity or feeling unable to stop are signs to act quickly. Block payment routes, remove gambling apps, change compromised passwords and ask a trusted person to help protect essential funds. Seek qualified local health support if gambling is affecting sleep, work, relationships or safety.
